Saturday . Did not do much in the morning. Steve went to visit the aquarium, which was very close to the hotel. Then we all started on the 20-minute hike to the train station, leaving at the worst possible time, because after about five minutes the skies opened. Steve went off to get an Uber and spent some time arguing with the driver about where to pick us up. We could not have gotten any wetter. Then we caught the train. I had a nicer photo of the Arch, but it appears to have disappeared. This one will have to do. The Arch Okay, I managed to convince Google to show me more. The Arch Sunday Because, of course Fortunately, the weather has been great. We all sat around a table in the hotel's courtyard, and I had my first experience with CVS Telehealth. At first it was miserable, because she (the health provider) somehow had me on twice, with the result that everything I said echoed back to me twice as loud. Once she got that worked out, it went fine. I gave my phone to Beck to fig...

I'm sick. Not terribly sick, but sick nonetheless. Dry cough, runny nose, fatigue, loss of appetite. Today Paula and the boys went to the zoo. (pics?) I stayed at the hotel. Later the four of us were going to walk to the Arch, but 3/4 of the way there they decided they didn't have time, and were going to go straight to the baseball game. I got Steve to show me how to rent a scooter, and took that back to the hotel. Then I took a nice two-hour nap. I'll post some pics from Mom's phone. Train to St Louis

We had lunch at Harvey's, and I had the best chicken-fried chicken I've had in a long time. Harvey's Painting in train station Most of yesterday was taken up by a boring six-hour train trip in coach class. Turns out, I don't like all train travel. Our hotel, the Drury, was supposed to be across the street from Union Station. And it was--but we didn't end up at Union Station, which was closed. I don't know what was going on there. Anyway, it was only about a six-block walk, but not a simple path. The Drury "at" Union Station Paula and I got a handicapped room. It has a shallow tub, which Paula can get into, rather than a walk-in shower. The bed is low enough that she can get into it without needing an extra step. On the negative side, the placement of the desk could not be much more awkward. Our room Desk, chair, two doors There was only one chair in the room, but we got a second from the main desk.

At the Hotel Indigo. The hotel Our room The bed and wall behind it High ceiling The hotel has coffee in the lobby only until 10am, so we missed it. Steve found a little place that sells coffee and some rolls, but has no indoor seating. Paula got an expresso "malt" and I got two malts." Malt, cappucino, quiche Then we went to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. It was quite extensive, couple of videos playing, etc. Also a small replica of a baseball field with bronze players.  In the museum Isaac and Steve Faceoff Paula on the playing field For lunch we had world-famous Kansas City Barbecue. I got the "burnt ends" and now I have enough left over for dinner. Arthur Bryant's BBQ! From Google: "Arthur Bryant's Barbecue, a historic Kansas City barbecue restaurant located at 1727 Brooklyn Ave, [is] famous for its slow-smoked meats, legendary vinegar-and-paprika-based sauce, and being a staple of KC's renowned barbecue scene, having been visited by pr...

Leaving Union Station in D.C.

We are off to a pretty good start. Paula and I are in an accessible room, and Steve and Isaac are in roomettes two cars down. Amtrak was confused about who went where (apparently I was marked as sharing a room with either Steven or Isaac, but we have the right number of people and the right number of rooms, so it's not our problem. Our train compartment is quite different from ones we have used in the past. It's pretty nice. Train compartment Train compartment Scooter Fellow travelers The TravelScoot should fit nicely in the shower, once it's folded up. Shower Steve and Isaac each had a roomette, two cars ahead, in the direction of the dining car. Isaac and Steve Gorgeous sunset. Sunset The dining car service was terrible. We waited almost an hour to get our food, and they closed up before we got our deserts. We got them anyway, from one of the attendants. Sunset Paula got a great picture of sunset over the Mississippi River. Train got into KC about an hour and a half late....
